ORLANDO,   Seorang kanak-kanak perempuan berusia 3 tahun berjalan kaki lebih dari satu batu (1.6 kilometer) di sebatang jalan raya yang sibuk di Florida, AS, menuju rumah neneknya untuk mencari bantuan setelah ayahnya dipercayai membunuh ibu anak itu, kata sejumlah pegawai pada 5/11/2013  waktu setempat.

Sarjan Kristin Thompson dari Jabatan Sheriff Lake County melukiskan gadis kecil itu sebagai "sosok yang heroik". "Itu jarak yang cukup jauh untuk seorang kanak-kanak seusianya," kata Thompson.

Anak kecil itu tahu rute ke rumah neneknya kerana dia pernah berjalan di jalur itu bersama ibunya, kata Thompson.

Pihak keselamatan menyebut nama Johnny LaShawn Shipman (36 tahun) sebagai suspek dan menerbitkan waran tangkap terhadapnya terkait kematian Kristi Lynne Delaney (26 tahun) dari Mascotte, 40 kilometer di sebelah barat Orlando.

Menurut catatan mahkamah Lake County, Delaney mengajukan tuntutan hak penjagaan dan klaim status ayah terhadap Shipman tahun 2011 dan permohonan hak perlindungan dari suspek  pada 2012.

Sarjan Thompson mengatakan, Shipman tidak tinggal di rumah yang diduduki Delaney dan puterinya. Thompson tidak mengungkapkan apa yang gadis cilik itu lihat atau katakan kepada para penyiasat, atau apakah dia mengenalpasti si penyerang sebagai ayahnya.

"Dia pergi ke rumah neneknya dan mengatakan dia tidak boleh membangunkan ibunya," kata Thompson.
